Very Good. Though a Democrat, Ewing had been a strong anti-slavery man before the War, and commanded troops in Missouri and Kansas during it. "A conspicuous leader of the Greenback wing of the Democratic party" [DAB], he here promotes its idea to substitute greenbacks for national bank notes, and blasts Grant as an incompetent idiot.
