New York City Democratic Party:

GREAT AND IMPORTANT MEETING OF DEMOCRATIC REPUBLICANS.

[New York: 1838] Caption title [as issued], dbd. 32pp, scattered foxing. Good+. An array of New York Democrats opposes radical Jacksonians in their Party, especially Robert Dale Owen and Fanny Wright. This pamphlet denounces the sub-treasury plan as a "scheme of destroying all state institutions" which will "virtually annihilate the State sovereignties, cast the whole power over the institutions and business of the country, INTO THE HANDS OF THE NATIONAL GOVERNMENT, and accomplish the ultra federal designs of consolidation," hence an "absolute tyranny." Included is an Address to the Democratic Republican Electors of the State of New-York, asserting Owen and Wright want to transform the U.S. by Revolution into a radical, communist society. FIRST EDITION. Wise & Cronin 86. AI 51905 [5]. Not in Eberstadt, Decker.
