Published by the Author, Topeka, Kansas: 1871 Original cloth, with gilt-stamped title on front cover [some light rubbing and wear. pp vii, [9]-287, [1 publ. advt]. Signed in pencil on front free endpaper, 'With respects of the Author.' Frontis of the State Capitol. Folding map, 62 x 34.5 cm, attached to rear pastedown: 'New Map of Kansas to Accompany Hutchinson's Resources of Kansas' [a few small fold separations at the folded corners]. Description of Illustrations, pages 275-284. Very Good. Designed to answer the questions of "persons contemplating a removal from some other region to Kansas." Dary says: "The book was first published in July Ten thousand copies were issued. The legislature paid for the printing. The work contains much material on Kansas including the land, soil, rivers, geology and natural resources plus details on cattle raising, the cattle trade, sheep and mule raising, farming, cities and towns, taxes, land surveys and railroads. Although primarily a promotional piece, the book captures the flavor of Kansas in There are forty-one illustrations. The book was reprinted in 1886.
