[Tibbits, Elisha]:

ANSWER TO THE VINDICATORY ADDRESS AND APPEAL OF LIEUTENANT WEAVER TO THE PUBLIC, FROM THE OPINION OF CHANCELLOR SANFORD, IN THE CASE OF WEAVER AGAINST WHITNEY, TIBBETS, & HOYT.

J. Seymour, New York: 1824 Disbound, with light to moderate fox. 28pp. Small repair to blank margin of last leaf. Good+. "Weaver took charge of a ship [the America] and cargo on a voyage to Peru and was to receive a portion of the profits from the voyage. When he did not receive what he believed to be his due, he brought suit against Whitney, Tibbits, and Hoyt , who had commissioned his services, and had promised him convoy protection and other support from Commodore Stewart of the warship Franklin. The New York Court of Chancery refuses to enforce the contract calling it corrupt and illegal since it involves bribery of a public official. That decision is reported at 1 Hopkins Chancery Reports 11 [1827]." BEAL. FIRST EDITION. AI 18197 [3]. BEAL 11340. Not in Eberstadt, Decker, Harv. Law Cat.
