Chicago, Burlington & Quincy RR:

FREIGHT CONDUCTOR'S REPORT OF CARS FOR ________185_.

[np: nd 1856?] Partially printed ownership inscription: "FOR FRED H. GARFIELD 185_ AURORA OCT 31 1856. CONDUCT. AURORA TRAIN." 16mo. Contemporary full calf. Forms filled in for most of the first 40 pages, 31 Oct. 1856 through 17 April 1862. The final [@150] pp are blank. The forms request information on each railroad car: "Whose Car," "Des. of Car," "No. of Car," "Where Taken," "Where Left," "Loaded or Empty," "Kind of Load," " When Cars are left short of destination in bad order, note condition in this column." Mr. Garfield appears to have doodled some personal information also. A laid-in newspaper clipping states, "Fred H. Garfield and family are anxiously inquired for by Luther Cadman, of Whitewater, Wis. Mr. Garfield is a railroad man." Very Good.
