Bank of the United States:

REPORT OF A COMMITTEE OF DIRECTORS OF THE BANK OF THE UNITED STATES.

[Philadelphia?: 1833] 48pp, stitched into contemporary plain wrappers [some wrapper soil]. Very Good. This is one of several printings of the Bank's December 3d response to President Jackson's removal of the federal deposits. The Bank, says its chairman Nicholas Biddle, "has devoted itself anxiously and exclusively to the...restoration of the currency, the maintenance of the general credit, and the accommodation of the internal and foreign trade of the country." President Jackson has added an additional requirement to its job description: "to consult the political views of those who had now obtained the ascendancy in the Executive." Biddle and his Committee denounce the "interference of the Government" in Bank affairs. The Report contains much information and documentation of the battle between Jackson and the Bank.
