New York: 1848 12mo. xiii, 238pp. Original blind stamped publisher's cloth [rubbed, light wear]. Scattered foxing. Good+ to Very Good. Dr. Mauriceau discusses female physiology, reproductive health, and pregnancy prevention. Advocating contraception, he argues that its use will induce early marriages, thus curb "the dire evils arising from promiscuous sexual intercourse with the tainted or diseased," and lead to "a healthy, robust, and pure generation" rather than "the present sickly, puny race." A footnote explains the "French Secret" [condoms], with his address for ordering condoms at per dozen. OCLC locates 13 under two accession numbers. This is the second printing; it first issued in 1847.
