SHIPPED IN GOOD ORDER AND WELL CONDITIONED, BY REYNELL AND COATES IN AND UPON THE GOOD SCHOONER CALLED THE POLLY WHEREOF IS MASTER FOR THIS PRESENT VOYAGE WILLIAM WYER AND NOW RIDING AT ANCHOR IN THE RIVER DELAWARE AND BOUND FOR NEWBURY IN NEW ENGLAND TO SAY, EIGHTY BARRELLS OF FLOUR ON THE PROPER AMOUNT AND RISK OF JOHN WOODS MERCHANT THERE AND TO HIM CONSIGN'D BEING MARKED AND NUMBERED AS IN THE MARGIN, AND ARE TO BE DELIVERED IN THE LIKE GOOD ORDER AND WELL CONDITIONED, AT THE AFORESAID PORT OF NEWBURY (THE DANGER OF THE SEAS ONLY EXCEPTED) UNTO THE SAID JOHN WOODS OR TO HIS ASSIGNS, HE OR THEY PAYING FREIGHT FOR THE SAID GOODS AS CUSTOMARY WITH PRIMAGE AND AVERAGE ACCUSTOMED. IN WITNESS WHEREOF THE MASTER OR PURSER OF THE SAID SCHOONER HATH AFFIRMED TO TWO BILLS OF LADING, ALL OF THIS TENOR AND DATE, THE ONE OF WHICH TWO BILLS BEING ACCOMPLISHED, THE OTHER TO STAND VOID. Printed by John Dunlap, [Philadelphia]: [1770s?] Small broadside, approx. 4.5" x 9.5". The text commences with an elaborate and square-bordered relief cut initial S, featuring a three-masted ship flying an American flag with '[Printed by John Dunlap.]' printed directly underneath. Partially printed and completed in manuscript [so indicated by the underlining], with contemporary ink writing, 'W1036 A 10992000 A 2013W204.205 IN FLOUR,' in blank left margin. On verso in ink 'bill lading 80 barrells flour shipt by Reynell & Coates for Jno. Wood in Capt Wyer 3 decr.' Very Good. John Reynell and Samuel Coates were Philadelphia merchants. William Wyer was a sea captain and trader prior to and during the period of the American Revolution. He was later listed as having been one of about 8000 captured by the British and held prisoner on board the Old Jersey some time after April 1780.
