Parsons, Jonathan:

INFANT BAPTISM FROM HEAVEN: TWO DISCOURSES DELIVERED AT HAVERHILL WEST-PARISH, APRIL 28TH, 1765. THE SECOND EDITION. WITH AN APPENDIX, OBVIATING SOME OBJECTIONS OFFERED AGAINST THE TRUTHS ASSERTED; AND SOME OTHER REMARKS UPON THE LATE REMARKABLE PERFORMANCE OF MR. HEZEKIAH SMITH. BY...MINISTER OF THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH IN NEWBURY-PORT.

W. McAlpine, Boston: 1767 Large 8vo. 142pp. Stitching broken, untrimmed and lightly dusted. Generously margined. Very Good. The 1765 first edition was 65 pages, without the Appendix that begins in this edition at page [65]. Parsons was strongly influenced by the Great Awakening, and was a friend of Whitefield, who died in Parsons' house; he would be among the most prominent supporters among the New England clergy of the American Revolution. Baptism "with water," he says here, is the "seal of induction" into the church. Evans 10722.
