One of Drake's rarest speeches. The leader of Missouri's Republican Radicals, Drake attacks his rivals, Carl Schurz and B. Gratz Brown, for making common cause with former enemies who, despite their protestations of loyalty, seek to undo the hard-won results of the War. "Gen. Schurz has abandoned the Radical party of Missouri and gone into affiliation with the Democracy. I do not say that he has announced himself a member of the Democratic party, but he goes over the state striving to induce the Democrats to vote the ticket that was nominated by the bolters from a Republican convention."
