THE ADDRESS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY, AGREED UPON AT A NUMEROUS MEETING HELD AFTER A GENERAL NOTICE AT LANCASTER ON APRIL 3D, 1805. TO THE DEMOCRATIC CITIZENS OF PENNSYLVANIA, RECOMMENDING A NEW CANDIDATE FOR THE OFFICE OF GOVERNOR.
[n.p. 1805]. 19pp, stitched, untrimmed and uncut [one pair of pages cut]. Original plain wrappers [lightly spotted], Very Good.
The Address opposes Pennsylvania's burgeoning "aristocracy" in state government. Governor Thomas M'Kean, elected with Democratic support, has demonstrated unsound tendencies which "soon produced an amicable and intimate association" with Federalists, "his former libellers." M'Kean is "insulting you and your representatives, and becoming the real head of a faction." M'Kean's assault upon liberty and the common man's pocketbook is catalogued. Simon Snyder is the right man for the upcoming gubernatorial election. FIRST EDITION. Sabin 59839. AI 9119 [6]. Item #11950
