One of 250 copies printed. "Contains Deane's narrative of his mission to France, Arthur Lee's narrative, and other documents." Decker. The Society acquired the original manuscript from Edward Ingraham of Philadelphia, who had acquired them from the family of Henry Laurens, President of Congress for part of the Revolutionary War. Deane had been charged by Arthur Lee with attempting to line his pockets in the course of his duties as an emissary to France during the War; depressed, he made some ill-considered remarks expressing pessimism about the American cause. These got him in further trouble.
