LETTERS. WASHINGTON CITY. D.C. OCTOBER, 1837.

[Washington? 1837?]. 17pp, caption title [as issued], disbound with light to moderate wear. Good+.

A Democratic Congressman from Chenango County, New York, Clark opposed the Loco-Foco, or radical wing of the Democratic Party. He gives examples of Loco-Focos' "deadly hostility to the credit and banking system;" and asserts, "To that portion of the democratic party which has deserted the standard of its true principles, and joined itself to the political new lights of the day, I owe no allegiance. I was born in the true political church, that of the democracy-- was baptized at its font, confirmed at its chancel, in full communion with it."
