A rare item, rebutting concerns about the special privileges that legislatively-granted Charters provide. The objection "that Charters are generally dangerous, and tend to create an Influence foreign to Republican Institutions," may have some force when it comes to banks or other government-created for-profit monopolies. It has none as applied to this Society, whose purpose is to benefit the entire polity by publicizing scientific advances and new discoveries.
