A pro-Douglas pamphlet for the 1860 election. The list of Murphy's publications at the end includes several other 1860 campaign pamphlets. This one argues that the entire Democratic Party, North and South, had unanimously agreed upon Popular Sovereignty as the standard for disposing of Territories acquired by the Mexican War. Vindicating Douglas's position, it demonstrates that-- as the struggle in Kansas increasingly divided Slave and Free States-- Southern Democrats' insistence on Congressional protection for slavery in all the Territories is inconsistent with their past professions.
