The Memorial opposes retailers' lobbying "to impose such a duty upon Sales by Auction, as will in effect be a prohibition of that mode of selling."
Merchants resented auctioneers' disruption of their retail markets. Auctioneers, on the other hand, argued that they contributed to market efficiency and hence the public good. This offering, which has no imprint, differs from OCLC's reference, which includes the imprint at the bottom of page 16.
