THE TRUE STATE OF THE QUESTION.

London: J. Debrett, 1784. 37, [1 advt] pp. Disbound, a couple of spots, else Very Good.

First and only edition. "Considers the question whether the system of a strong responsible parliamentary administration should be restored" [NUC]. In England, ministers are "responsible to parliament for their conduct, and looking up to parliament for support; and not as in despotic governments, the mere instruments of the will of an arbitrary master." This is "the great palladium of the Constitution."
The author attacks "Lord B." [Bute] and the King for subverting this system during the events leading to the American Revolution, and giving the executive arm of government over to "men ever unfriendly to liberty."
