IMPERIAL CURTAIN CO. NEW YORK. TRADE CATALOG.

[New York: early, 1900-1910?]. Oblong 6.75" x 4". Fifteen leaves of card stock on cloth hinges, photo illustrations. Bound in dark green boards [soiled and worn], binding cracked and shaken but holding. Overall soiling and wear. Good.

This unique item is a salesman's catalog, probably from the very early 1900s. The first leaf shows examples of theater curtains the company manufactured. Each subsequent leaf has approximately 16 individual photo illustrations of advertising broadsides that the company has manufactured to order. The advertising broadsides are quite interesting and cover a range of businesses and themes: clothiers, tailors, dentists, insurance companies, retail stores, motor vehicles and restaurants. 'Cookman Bros. Gent's Furnishers' features two African natives with grass skirts, top hats, and white wrist and ankle cuffs. Kennedy Dentist has a cartoon character who is a dead ringer for Alfred E. Newman. Also found within are such companies as The New York Times, Boston Music Co., Borden's Milk and Cream, The Edison Company, Fleischman's, Macy's, Gimbels, Sacks, among others.
