A Yale graduate, Elderkin was appointed, in August 1776, Second Lieutenant of Marines on board the Connecticut ship-of-war Oliver Cromwell. After the War he kept a tavern in Willimantic. Elderkin and Gray were witnesses to the conveyance by Stephen White of Windham County of land in New Haven to his son Dyer White. Item #23376
