Daniel K. Whitaker founded this scarce, short-lived periodical in 1835; he edited it until 1837. William Gilmore Simms was its primary contributor. Its final publication was in December 1838. It includes poetry, essays on a variety of literary, cultural, and historical matters, generally with a southern flavor [The Alabama Prairies, Domestic Slavery, the Health and Climate of Charleston].
