AN HISTORICAL TREATISE OF AN ACTION OR SUIT AT LAW...THE THIRD EDITION, WITH ADDITIONS.

Dublin: Watts, 1791. 12mo. Contemporary calf [hinges starting, gilt-lettered morocco spine label]. xxxi, [1 blank], 268pp. Scattered, generally light foxing. About Very Good.

Boote's purpose is to illustrate "the obscurity and expence which necessarily attend the conducting of a suit at law, especially where special pleadings are requisite to be made." The exposure, he hopes, will produce "some method by which the proceedings in a suit may be contracted or reduced into forms more concise, and consequently less intricate and less expensive than they are at present." The book takes the reader from the initiation to the conclusion of the suit, with the many forms, requirements, and pleadings that the litigant must endure. The first edition issued from London in 1766; the second, also from London, in 1781. This third edition is also the first Irish printing. It was followed by many subsequent printings.
