Hartford: Printed by Green & Watson, 1770. Small 4to. 24pp, with the half title. Later plain brown wrappers [light dustsoiling and wear], stitched. Lightly tanned, scattered foxing, light wear. Some old manuscript notations and underscoring in ink. Good+. Half title inscription, 'From Miss Clarissa Lord Pitkin' and 'Geo. Allen's- 1865.'

Nathaniel Hooker graduated from Yale in 1755, and was licensed to preach at 19 years old. He died in his early 30's. "The sermon at his funeral by his friend, the Rev. Joseph Perry [Harvard 1752], pastor of the First Church in what is now South Windsor... describes Mr. Hooker as 'one of the best preachers, and most excellent sermonizers' of that day. 'As to his sentiments in religion, they were of a noble, manly, rational complexion, and of a catholic turn.' 'His natural temper was very chearful, pleasant, and innocently humorous.'"
