Writing in March 1863, the author welcomes the impending doom of slavery. "The more malignant and deteriorating influences of slavery are to be found among the white, brutalizing as they are on the black man." He advocates the Republican position on slavery in the Territories, and vigorously opposes the notion of state sovereignty.
