YR AMERICAN, YR HWN SYDD YN CYNNWYS NODAU AR DAITH O DDYFFRYN OHIO.

Llanrwst [Wales]: 1840. 12mo. 48pp. Stitched in original printed green wrappers. Generously margined, uncut, lightly toned, Very Good, in a modern cloth folding case.

Thomas Streeter, who thought this piece was unrecorded, wrote: "I have not been able to learn anything about Chidlaw beyond the fact that Thomson 184 [also Sabin 12686] records a sermon preached by him in 1861 as chaplain of a regiment of Ohio Volunteers and [185] an historical address on a valley of the Miami delivered in 1876." Graff says, the "text comprises short descriptive paragraphs about cities and areas, principally in Ohio, preceded by a general description of the country and an account of travels from Wales." Eberstadt says, "An early narrative in Welsh describing travels and experiences all over Ohio but notably in the Paddy's Run region."
