New Haven, CT: 1879. Two manuscript booklets, 7.5" x 10". The first is 48pp, lined, original plain orange wraps [light dustsoiling and wear], stitched. Ownership ink signature of W. K. Seely at head of front wrap with "Evidence" written in manuscript. Several leaves loose but present. The second consists of 72 lined pages, of which 30pp are in manuscript. Original plain orange wraps [minor dustsoiling and wear], stitched. Ownership signature of "C.J. Cole" at head of front wrap. Interiors clean, Very Good.

The two booklets contain evidence in a trial between these two well-known Connecticut businesses. Each contains similar testimony and belonged to attorneys representing parties in the case. They include testimony of L.T. Wooster and W.H.H. Wooster, as principals of L.T. Wooster Company; William E. Frazier, as Secretary and Treasurer of the Hartford Eyelet; Morgan G. Buckley, as Vice President of Hartford Eyelet; Charles S. Shepherd of Brooklyn, NY, a businessman in the brass industry; and others.
The Woosters were a prominent family in Connecticut. Letsome T. Wooster, the plaintiff, was involved in the manufacture of brass and German silver, and was considered one of the most successful in his field. In addition to owning the company bearing his name, he also served as superintendent of the Waterbury Brass Company, the Wolcottville Brass Company, and the Seymour Manufacturing Company. Hartford Eyelet was organized in 1866 and by 1904 was extinct.
C[harles] J. Cole [1839-1895], whose signature appears at the head of one wrapper, graduated Harvard Law School in 1863 and opened a solo practice in Hartford. [CONNECTICUT REPORTS...
