IN MEMORIAM. THOMAS J. HARPER, M.D. DEPARTED THIS LIFE JANUARY 18, 1886, IN THE EIGHTY-FIFTH YEAR OF HIS AGE.

Vicksburg, Miss: Printed at the Southern Methodist Pub. House, [1886]. Original printed wrappers, 16pp. Stitched, light dust and minor wear, Very Good.

Dr. Harper was born in Petersburg, Virginia, in 1801. Harper's mother was a sister of General Winfield Scott. Harper married a Mary Thomas who was, a penciled note here says, a relative of Major General George Thomas, the 'Rock of Chickamauga.' A card accompanying the pamphlet says that the note is in the hand of Giles Buckner Cooke, who served on Robert E. Lee's staff during the War.
Reverend Marshall's oration praises the medical profession and, particularly, Harper's tireless and resolute devotion to his patients.
