NEW 'DEMOCRATIC' DOCTRINE. SLAVERY NOT TO BE CONFINED TO THE NEGRO RACE, BUT TO BE MADE THE UNIVERSAL CONDITION OF THE LABORING CLASSES OF SOCIETY.

[np: 1856]. 4pp, generously margined and crudely trimmed. Caption title [as issued], printed in double columns, last leaf moderately foxed. Good+.

This scarce pamphlet was printed in 1856, with slightly varying titles, in several Northern cities as a pro-Fremont campaign document. It urges Democrats to vote for Fremont, the candidate of the new Republican Party. Buchanan and his Southern Democrat allies consider wage laborers no better than slaves. "This doctrine is so monstrous and shocking as almost to seem incredible," but it "is now openly avowed and defended." People of the Free States must rise up in protest.
