Upham discusses the decisions of the Referees on the issue of charging tolls on merchandise and freight passing from station to station, and between the different railroad companies. Articles 6 and 7 from the Award of the Referees are annexed.
Nathaniel G. Upham (1801-1869) was a Dartmouth graduate and a Supreme Court judge in New Hampshire by the age of 27, an office that he held for twelve years. After resigning his judgeship, he served as superintendent of the Concord Railroad for approximately twenty years and later as its president. [Appleton's Cyclopaedia of American Biography.]
