Putney was appointed from Connecticut. He was born in 1885. He was appointed to the Coast Artillery Corps in October 1918 as a Lieutenant-Colonel. Returned in rank to Captain, he taught Military Science and Tactics at MIT in 1919-1923, and continued his career as a Coast Artillery officer. Item #30371
