THE SLANDERED CHRISTIAN AND HIS DUTY: A SERMON, PREACHED AT THE ST. JOHN'S CHURCH, QUINCY, ILL., MAY 3D, 1846.

Quincy: Woods & Flagg, Printers, 1846. 12pp, stitched in contemporary plain blue wrappers [lightly worn]. Very Good.

"Giddinge came to Quincy about 1841 from Kentucky. He was rector of St. John's for over twenty years before moving to Palmyra, Missouri, where he conducted a seminary" [Byrd]. St. John's was a member of the Illinois Diocese of the Protestant Episcopal Church.
Giddinge's prefatory Note to this rare pamphlet explains that his sermon "has been made the subject of misrepresentation." He decided to publish it to remove the unwarranted "misapprehension."
