Original printed yellow wrappers with vignette of bee hive on front wrap, woodcut illustration of a bald eagle on the rear wrap [a few small spots, corners turned], sewn. Corners of first several leaves bent. An occasional spot of fox, else text quite clean. Overall, Very Good.
There were several of these small books printed in the 1840s, each featuring a different group of birds. This book includes a few illustrations used in the 1840 edition of a slightly different name [The Aviary]. Ours includes the Hoopoe, Swan, Crane, Partridge, Great Horned Owl, Sparrow Hawk, Quail, Cormorant, Swallow, Osprey. Also includes a chart with the alphabet and common punctuation marks.
