The Association's "object" was "to construct a Monument to the memory of Abraham Lincoln, in the city of Springfield, State of Illinois." This is the first printing of its founding documents. Included also is the Association's Memorial to the Illinois Senate and House of Representatives, recalling the "all-pervading grief" that resulted from Lincoln's murder "by the hands of a foul assassin." The Association's committee is "composed mostly of his old political friends, and altogether of personal friends, who had long known, loved and honored him living."
