AAS has our Lewistown 1835, and Newark and Elmira copies. "This celebrated series of Toy Books is a development of the hornbook, battledore, and primer. The various numbers contain alphabets, syllabaries, and reading-easies, all fully illustrated with woodcuts, the readings consisting of stories on natural history subjects and common objects. Lyman Cobb, a famous educator, was born in Lenox, Mass., about 1800 and died in 1864" [Rosenbach].
