Philadelphia: Printed for Robert Campbell & Co., no. 40, South Second-Street, 1796. 27, [1 publ. advt] pp. Disbound, lightly foxed and toned, else Very Good. With the ownership signature, "Mahlon Dickerson 1796," neatly inscribed on the title page. Dickerson was the prominent Jeffersonian, New Jersey Governor, Judge, Senator, and Secretary of the Navy.
One of several Philadelphia editions published this year, priority unclear. Paine's essay is dated April 8, 1796. Paine argued that English paper money was unsound. His forceful attack on the English System was printed in a variety of locales. He was evidently so convincing that his argument stimulated a run on the Bank of England.
