PRINTED DOCUMENT, COMPLETED IN MANUSCRIPT 7 NOVEMBER 1839, IN WHICH A DEPUTY SHERIFF OF HENRY COUNTY, TENNESSEE, SEIZES "ONE NEGRO BOY NAMED HENRY WORTH NINE HUNDRED DOLLARS" TO SATISFY A DEBT OWED BY WILLIAM THOMAS TO SAMUEL AND JOSEPH MEADE.

Henry County TN: 1839. Penal bond, posted by Thomas as security for his debt, 7-1/2" x 9-1/4." Probably missing the lower half of the bond, the retained portion noting the seizure of Henry. Otherwise, Good.

Slaves owned by judgment debtors were often seized by their creditors in order to satisfy the outstanding debt. Henry County is in West Tennessee, about 150 miles north and slightly east of Memphis. Item #38244
