This second edition lists an array of criminals: women; Jewish, Italian, Irish, and other Americans, all practicing an interesting variety of criminal trades. Each is featured in a brief biographical sketch.
Each profile details the crimes committed and the circumstances leading up to arrest and conviction. Also included are chapters on criminal methods, opium addiction, fugitives from justice, prison commutation laws, executions in the Tombs in New York, and a "list of state prisons, penitentiaries, and reformatories in the States and Territories."
