This is the second edition, printed in the same year as the Lancaster first. As Evans notes, it "contains 'the constitution of the Lancaster County Society, for Promoting of Agriculture, Manufactures, and the Useful Arts."
Trained as a physician, Logan "applied himself enthusiastically to the study of improved methods of farming" [DAB]. Here he emphasizes the importance to the Nation of agriculture and manufactures. Logan became a member of the American Philosophical Society in 1793, and helped to found the Philadelphia Society for the Promotion of Agriculture. A Jeffersonian, he is best known in political life for causing passage of the Logan Act in 1799, when he unofficially negotiated with Talleyrand on the state of Franco-American relations. Soon thereafter Logan was elected to the U.S. Senate.
