"Opposing the re-election of John Magee to the U.S. Congress" [AAS]. Magee was elected to Congress as a Jacksonian in 1826, and re-elected in 1828. But Magee has disappointed the hopes of Jacksonians. "He is a man alike destitute of talents and education, we mean such talents as are the indispensable requisites of a member of Congress; yet at a single leap he arrived at the Capitol of the nation!!!" Moreover, he has allied himself with anti-tariff southerners like John Randolph of Roanoke and McDuffie of South Carolina.
Thirty-Six Editors [unnamed] oppose "the political juglery of this man," who is a "dough face" allied with his southern friends.
