"Wm. Emmons. Went to the City of Washington in the fall of 1826- was appointed private secretary to Col. Richard M. Johnson, Vice President of the United States - afterwards Recording Secretary to the Hon. Levi Woodbury when Secretary of the Treasury Department under the administration of Van Buren & Johnson. Wm Emmons also wrote the Biography of Martin Van Burren & delivered orations in nearly all the Battle-fields of the Revolution including the planes of York-Town Va. Addressed the Convention of Richmond Va &c &c."
