This issue of a rare Virginia newspaper prints detailed information on the doings of the 22d Congress at Washington, and activities at Richmond in the Virginia Legislature. A report about debates on the abolition of slavery includes references to "the enormous evil of slavery, the propriety and necessity of acting, but not at this time. . . It is impossible to give the distant reader a just conception of the profound excitement which prevails, or of the universal consciousness of the incalculable magnitude and weight of the crisis."
