Hamlin responds to Kilton's "note of the 24th inst.", explaining that "We have no such officer as Lieut Governor in Maine. The President of the Senate becomes Governor in case of a vacancy in that office. Hon. Josiah Crosby is President of the Senate, and his residence is at Dexter Penobscot County. Yours Truly, H. Hamlin."
