Philadelphia: 1827-1830. Contemporary bookplate of William Cornell on front pastedown of all three volumes, which are bound in similar half sheep and marbled paper over boards. Volume I has gilt-lettered spine rules and titles. The bindings of all three volumes are rubbed.
Volume I: we offer the entire volume: Number 1 [5 May 1827] through No. 26 [19 April 1828]. 208 pages, paginated consecutively. Each issue is eight pages, each page printed in three columns, Numbers 1, 4, 9, 16, 20, 26 are preceded by a frontispiece. No. 1: Meriwether Lewis [accompanying a biographical sketch]; No. 4: "The Late Residence of Mr. Rapp, New Harmony, Indiana;" No. 9: "Simon Snyder Governor of Pennsylvania;" No. 16: "View on the Susquehannah". No. 20: "Abbey of Boyle;" No.26: untitled, "Breathe your still song into the reaper's ear. . ." Widely scattered foxing, light wear, a few short closed tears without loss. Very Good.
Volume II: we offer the entire Volume 2, Number 1 [3 May 1828] through Number 26 [12 April 1829]. Each issue pp. Total 208pp, paginated consecutively. Two stories on the legend of Davy Crockett. The following Numbers preceded by a frontis: Number 7 ["Fort Ticonderoga on Lake Champlain"]; Number 10 ["So long have we been mated, fell Despair!"]; No. 16 ["Lebeid, The Arabian Poet"]; No. 19 ["The First Presbyterian Church in Phila."]; No. 22 [Handcolored "New London from Manwaring's Hill"]; No. 26 ["View of Fort Niagara and Lake Ontario, from the Light House on the British Side"]. Badly spotted but complete. Fair to Good only
