This opening issue begins with the Prospectus. "In a republic like this, where every man is of some importance in his political capacity, and where the rulers are dependent for their situations upon the standing they hold in public estimation, politics will be the prevailing topic in all the periodical publications." Each issue will contain a weekly summary of foreign and domestic events, "legal adjudications," manufactures, the arts, agriculture, public debates.
"The sole object (of this magazine) is to seize important political facts for the purpose of establishing them on permanent record" [Lomazow]. "Abounding with documents relating to the War of 1812" [Sabin].
