LIFE OF GENERAL SAM HOUSTON.

[Washington: Towers, 1856]. 15, [1 blank] pp. Caption title [as issued]. Gathered signatures. Untrimmed. Light toning. Generous margins with bit of chipping at untrimmed foremargin. Very Good.

A biography of Houston by a secret admirer who wanted him to run for President in 1856. The author treats his early life, beginning with his birth in Virginia; his military career, his rise to prominence in Tennessee politics, and his disastrous marriage, which resulted in his resigning the office of Governor and taking up residence with his beloved Cherokees.
His celebrated confrontation with Stansbury of Ohio is recounted, and his migration to Texas discussed. The political and military history of Texas became entwined with Houston's life, and both are reviewed in detail.
Miles lists this as an 1856 imprint.
