The 'Democratic' party "disgraces that name by denouncing human equality and the imprescriptable rights of man which embrace immortal liberty and impartial justice." Democrats are "striving to re-establish a detestable and odious Slave Oligarchy."
Michael Hahn, who signed this pamphlet, was a German Jewish immigrant to New Orleans. He owned the 'True Delta' newspaper, opposed secession, and supported Emancipation. He was elected Governor of Union-occupied Louisiana, by which time he had become an Episcopalian.
