REASONS GOOD AND TRUE FOR SUPPORTING THE NOMINATION OF GENERAL ZACHARY TAYLOR.

Washington: Gideon, 1848]. 8pp. Caption title as issued. Disbound, else Very Good. 'Please Circulate' at head of the title.

Letters from the Massachusetts and Connecticut Whigs John Davis and Truman Smith, written in June and July 1848, support Taylor's presidential nomination on the Whig ticket.
Pages 7-8 treat aspects of General Taylor's character, "by the Reverend Mr. Lamb, one of his chaplains," and others. The pamphlet allays northern fears that the Louisianan Taylor would enact the pro-slavery Southern Rights agenda.
In fact, during his brief tenure in office Taylor proved to be a champion of the Union in the tradition of Andrew Jackson, supporting the admission of California with its Constitution barring slavery.
